Problem with SATA 2 with old motherboard

I just brought a old motherboard (MSI KT6V-LSR) to use in a NAS server.

Its on board SATA could not detect any of my SATA drives.

At first I thought great the on-board sata is dead.

Well I had a closer look at the drives and one had a jumper setting to limit the drive to 1.5 gbs per sec i.e Sata 1. Sata 2 runs at 3 gbps.

With the drive limited to SATA 1 the drive worked fine with the boards on board sata.

How ever one of the drives a Samsung, had no jumper setting after some research I found out, you have use a boot disk called ES-tool with allows you to switch the drive to SATA 1. Now the drive works fine.

Six wireless USB 1.0 products certified

Wireless USB could mean a whole new generation of wireless devices. So long wire, I knew thee well…
The future is bright for Certified Wireless USB with the announcement of six products that have passed the USB Implementers Forum’s certification.

The products that have recently been certified include Dell’s Inspiron 1720, Lenovo’s ThinkPad T61/T61p, an IOGEAR Wireless USB Hub, an IOGEAR Adapter Kit, along with D-Link’s Wireless USB Adapter (DUB-1210) and 4-Port Wireless USB Hub (DUB-2240).

Collectively, these mark the first batch products to be branded Certified Wireless USB.

Certified Wireless USB 1.0 devices will send data at rates of 480Mb/sec over a distance of three meters but will drop considerably to 110Mb/sec when at the ten meter mark. The peak transfer speed is on par with the rated speed of USB 2.0 while still maintaining a speed greater than USB 1.1 over a greater distance.

The specification is also backwards compatible with previous USB versions and will allow you to use your other USB devices across the room, with an adapter of course. Future Certified Wireless USB devices will have the technology built right into the products allowing them to natively communicate between them at speeds faster than Bluetooth. Consumers can expect to see the Certified Wireless USB logo on product packaging early this Autumn.

I just edited a xvid movie the file size was slightly too large for a cdr.
So I used virualdub to cut some of the end credits off.

I was shocked to find it only took a about a minute to save the edited avi.

Western Digital rolls out 2TB My Book external hard drives

Just in case 1.5TB wasn’t enough for you, Western Digital’s now gone and topped off its entire range of dual-drive My Book external hard drives with a full 2TB of storage. That includes the My Book World Edition II, the My Book Pro Edition II, and My Book Premium Edition II models, each of which appear to be otherwise unchanged from their previous incarnations. Of course, all that storage excess doesn’t exactly come cheap, with the 2TB versions of the drives running between $749 and $799 depending on the model.
