Six wireless USB 1.0 products certified

Wireless USB could mean a whole new generation of wireless devices. So long wire, I knew thee well…
The future is bright for Certified Wireless USB with the announcement of six products that have passed the USB Implementers Forum’s certification.

The products that have recently been certified include Dell’s Inspiron 1720, Lenovo’s ThinkPad T61/T61p, an IOGEAR Wireless USB Hub, an IOGEAR Adapter Kit, along with D-Link’s Wireless USB Adapter (DUB-1210) and 4-Port Wireless USB Hub (DUB-2240).

Collectively, these mark the first batch products to be branded Certified Wireless USB.

Certified Wireless USB 1.0 devices will send data at rates of 480Mb/sec over a distance of three meters but will drop considerably to 110Mb/sec when at the ten meter mark. The peak transfer speed is on par with the rated speed of USB 2.0 while still maintaining a speed greater than USB 1.1 over a greater distance.

The specification is also backwards compatible with previous USB versions and will allow you to use your other USB devices across the room, with an adapter of course. Future Certified Wireless USB devices will have the technology built right into the products allowing them to natively communicate between them at speeds faster than Bluetooth. Consumers can expect to see the Certified Wireless USB logo on product packaging early this Autumn.

Ethernet’s Next Steps: 40-, 100-Gbit Speed

Ethernet’s Next Steps: 40-, 100-Gbit Speeds
By ExtremeTech Staff

Users familiar with Gigabit Ethernet speeds may know that the technology originally began life in the server space, then migrated down to the desktop PC. Likewise, the IEEE 802.3 working group has decided upon a new 40-Gbit speed for server and storage applications and a 100-Gbit speed for network aggregation.

“A key finding was a divergence in bandwidth demand between the networking and computing industries,” the alliance said. “It was discovered 100GbE would likely best meet the demands of the next generation Internet backbone and network aggregation points. In enterprise computing, 40GbE better matches the bandwidth demand driven by server technologies such as host bus interfaces, memory speeds, and multi-core processing.

The 40-Gbit rate includes physical layer (semiconductor) or PHY solutions to cover distances up to 100 meters, and the 100-Gbit rate includes PHY solutions to cover distances up to 40 kilometers. Alliance members did not announce a public timetable to support the new standards with shipping products.

Will Quad Core save AMD ?

Back up your Windows Vista file Encryption Key (though EFS sucks)

This key identifles you as the user which can use the files you have encyptiped on your pc, if you lose it and have forget your username and password you WONT be able to access your files.

Back it up now

Saying that the file encryption built into windows (EFS) sucks you can buy utilities that crack it in seconds and it should only be used as basic anti snooping device.

Use a tool like Truecrypt for real encryption.

New Router

Got a new router a wrt54gc today.

Works beautifully, the reason I got a new one was because my old routers was shit its maximum throughput downloading from the internet was 10 megabit per sec.

Which is not enough for me now, I was quite surprised many home SOHO routers cant handle high speed internet

As you can see from this chart

Strip DRM from your Zune files

FairUse4WM will that strip stupid fucking DRM shit from your Zune files and windows media files

Quick frankly if you have paid for the media I see no reason why should tolerate it.

Proving software copy protection is excellent at frustrating honest people, and a minor inconvenience to everyone else.
